Home News & Events World Book Day 2026

8th March 2026

World Book Day 2026

The school SLT all worked together to bring alive the story of The Hungry Caterpillar. Mr Carter began the day as a Very Hungry Caterpillar but after nibbling his way through several pieces of fruit and a pickle, transformed into a beautiful butterfly…after some time in a cocoon of course! The children followed behind Mr Carter as he had his first flight around the school grounds!

Although dressing up is not the most important part of celebrating reading, the children certainly find it enjoyable! Lots of staff were also dressed up as book characters. As well as coming in dressed up, the children were invited to bring in their favourite books to share with their class. Pupils enjoyed sensory stories, reading to themselves or being creative – celebrating why we all love sharing stories together. Some classes swapped books whilst others went on scavenger hunts. One child said, ‘This day is just amazing.’

Reading for pleasure is something we feel is incredibly important, for creativity, life, and wellbeing. Hopefully all the children have come away a little more inspired to read or even to write their own books! With World Book Day, the effort is always worth it.
